Growing up as a child that dressed unconventionally according to the norms, my fondness for silhouettes grew with time. I lived by “to everything, there is a reason, and every reason holds its meaning”, and I am fortunate to attest that my dreams of studying fashion as an industry and living in Mumbai have come true. Hailing inspiration from my mother and her motivation to be independent all her life, living away from home for four years had several ups and downs. This journey introduced me to design, sustainability, and everything I wanted to know and explore in the field of my interest. Living in a city like Mumbai has taught me the importance of never giving up. Besides all my struggles, bad mental health days, demanding situations, and hefty accomplishments, I am proud of the person I am becoming. Now that I have scratched the surface and understood my passion, I believe it is the correct time to pursue a Master’s in Fashion Business Management/Fashion Management at [University Name].

To pursue my dreams and with a singular focus of constantly upskilling, I enrolled in the Diploma in Fashion Design program offered by ISDI School of Design and Innovation. Acquiring an outstanding CGPA of 3.5/4, the program provided me with a robust foundation in the principles and practices of fashion design. In addition to my diploma, I also completed a Bachelor’s in Arts from the Institute of Distance and Open Learning, University of Mumbai. Keeping up with a comprehensive education, the practical assignments and academic collaborations helped me gain hands-on experience in the design process, from concept ideation to final product creation. Working on my thesis project at ISDI, Mumbai, ‘Safar’, we created a short film that chronicled my personal mental health journey and its impact on my personal development. With an objective to provide hope and support to those experiencing similar challenges, I could visualize my professional and personal growth. Moreover, I was responsible for designing the accompanying garments and sourcing natural yarns from Kutch for my final collection. Another noteworthy project I was involved in was the ‘Prakriti’ Brand Development Project, which explored incorporating Ayurvedic principles into clothing design to promote a sustainable and chemical-free approach. I worked with fellow Strategic Design Management students to develop a comprehensive business plan that included a five- and ten-year vision for the brand’s future and its environmental impact. As part of the Sustainability Systems, my participation in the “Divine Bovine” project at ISDI, Mumbai, allowed me to collaborate with a group of four, focusing on the inhumane practices in the leather production industry. We created a short film utilizing puppetry to raise awareness of this issue, and it was well-received by the faculty and displayed in various exhibitions, including those at Parsons School in New York. Overall, my academic experiences have prepared me well for the challenges of further pursuits and helped me develop my skills to make meaningful contributions. 

Focused on gaining practical experience while studying, I was fortunate to work in the fashion industry through various internships and freelance work. Interning with Milaap, an NGO, for a month in 2019, I assisted in spreading awareness and raised funds for different fundraising initiatives. Later that year, I interned with Accessory Funk Official and was responsible for styling products, inventory management, and even modelling for shoots. I learned the importance of paying attention to details and the significance of selling products. In February 2020, I was selected by my college to intern at the New York Fashion Week through Fashion Incubator. Involved in responsibilities such as assisting backstage for Sergio Hudson’s show, handling registrations, and styling models for Flying Solo New York, I also worked in the photography and content creation team for the final show, ROSSI. The experience taught me the importance of management and teamwork and concretized my pursuit of a career in Fashion Management. Moving on, I began freelancing for Stylumia, a trend-forecasting solution company that works with various brands such as Amazon and Myntra. As a member of the product tagging, annotating and trend forecasting team, I researched upcoming trends in the fashion industry. Next, from December 2021 to July 2022, I worked for Do It Up, an events and home styling company, initially as a Graphic Designer and Social Media Executive, then as an Events and Graphic Designer. This role empowered me with multitasking skills like site visits, vendor management, accounts, cost sheets, and people management. My best work experience so far has been at Tommy Hilfiger, where I worked as a Customer Relationship Officer from September 2022 to January 2023. I was responsible for customer and sales management and gradually learned about the billing system and menswear section. Unfortunately, I left the job and moved home due to unavoidable health issues. But this didn’t stop me. I pursued an internship with Stanley Communications as a PR and Influencer Marketing Intern, and I learned about marketing strategies brands use to promote their products. Currently, as a Costume Styling Intern at Dharma Productions under Sabina Halder, I am working for a web series, Call me Bae, and I am responsible for sourcing, returns, accounts, and fittings for actors. My rigorous work experience has further fostered my strong understanding of the fashion industry.

Looking at my parents’ remarkable ability to transition quickly and never stop growing, I am inspired to be a strong, confident, and bold woman capable of making independent decisions and managing my own business.
